Student Recitals

Performance is an essential element of musical study. It allows students the opportunity to show off their hard work to friends and family, gives them a goal to build towards and achieve, and helps them gain experience in public expression and stress management. Standing up and performing in front of a room full of people—friends, family, and strangers alike—takes a great deal of courage and everyone who does so deserves the respect of their peers, and recognition for their accomplishments. Studio recitals are an important part of the Kulzick Violin Studio, with recitals held each quarter.

Students are expected to participate in at least two recitals a year, including the June studio-wide potluck picnic and outdoor recital. Students’ recital repertoire is determined during lesson, roughly 5 weeks preceding their next performance.

4:30pm, Naperville Woman’s Club

Saturday, March 9th, 2024
Recital time TBA, Naperville Woman’s Club

Saturday, June 2nd, 2024
~1–3pm, outdoor, at one of the Naperville Park District venues
Potluck picnic and full studio recital. Students are expected to stay for the entire performance

There is a yearly recital fee of $30 per student which covers venue rental, piano rental or tuning, and other recital expenses. This fee is added to the September invoice.

Studio recitals are open to the public and do not require tickets to attend. Please invite family and friends—the more, the merrier! Non-participating students and their families are also encouraged to attend and support their colleagues in the studio. Performing students need to arrive at the venue 30 minutes before their recital begins, to warm up and tune, and performing students are asked to bring a small snack to share, for the post-recital reception. Please avoid nuts and label any foods that contain known allergens.

With rare exceptions, students perform their pieces by memory and with piano accompaniment. Students meet with our studio accompanist in the week or two before each recital, with truncated 15-minute rehearsals for the beginners (Suzuki books 1–3) and 30-minute rehearsals for the more advanced students (Suzuki books 4+). Students are responsible for paying the accompanist their fee ($35/$60), in cash or check made out to the accompanist (not Ms. Kulzick), at their rehearsal.

Our studio accompanist is the fabulous Hae Young Han.

Below are the programs and some video clips from our previous studio recitals. Congratulations to everyone who performed!
